Kumihimo - Dragon Scales and Other Tales

Using a foam disk, students will make a braided and beaded bracelet with the ancient Japanese braiding technique of kumihimo.  They will also learn how to finish off and wire-wrap on end cones and a clasp. Mary Lynne will share all the secrets she learned in an intensive 3-day workshop with nationally recognized kumihimo expert Adrienne Gaskell last year.  
 
Instructor: Mary Lynne Westervelt has been doing needlework and art work since she was a young child, and beadwork for more than 30 years. She has studied with a variety of teachers including NanC Meinhardt, Jeanette Cook, Marcia DeCoster, Kate McKinnon, Carol Cypher, and Laura McCabe. She has taught classes in Chicago, at the Milwaukee Bead and Button Show, and Kansas City's Bead Blast.

Kit Includes:  Enough beads for 2 bracelets:  one Dragon Scale bracelet with long magnatamas and seed beads, and one with Czech fire-polished and seed beads. Foam Kumihimo disk, plastic bobbins, drawstring bag and weights, pre-strung long magnatamas and 8 seed beads OR pre-strung Czech fire-polished and size 8 seed beads, end cones, clasps, wire.
 
                          End cones and clasps will differ from photo.  Various colorways will be available.
Additional Supplies needed: Scissors, round and chainnose pliers, flush cutters,  battery operated task light, magnification
                                              if needed.  Instructor will have some tools available for use in class.
Kit Fee for Non-Students: $70.00 for non-students AFTER CLASS ONLY.  Please do not contact instructor to purchase
                                          kit prior to class. Kits for non-students will not include pre-strung beads
